Sam Gilgannon - Pastry Chef

Born in Edinburgh in 1986, Sam’s culinary career began as a kitchen porter at the Marhall Hotel, a 5 star hotel on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow.

Looking to broaden his horizons, in February 2010 Sam applied for a job at Number 6 and after a phone interview with Paul embarked on the 16 hour coach journey to Padstow having never left Scotland before and with just £100 in his pocket.

Sam’s work ethic saw him quickly move on from his initial role as a kitchen porter to prepping vegetables for the chefs.

FInding something he both enjoyed and had a talent for, in September 2010 Sam began making the bread and preparing starters. A talented pastry chef, Sam now prepares four different types of bread and Number 6’s famous desserts, a fantastic achievement having worked in the industry for a short space of time.
